Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort – St. Lucia

Envision standing between two picturesque mountains with your feet wrapped in soft white sand. You’ll feel like an insignificant ant among the majestic Pitons and find yourself wondering, “how lucky am I?” Insignificant is far from how you’ll be treated during your stay at Sugar Beach. Prepare yourself for an abundance of impressive service, a serene atmosphere, and a rainforest spa beyond compare.

Getting there: Although Sugar Beach is not easy to get to (it’s even a 12 minute ride from the Sugar Beach gate to the main hotel area), I promise you’ll be thrilled you sucked up the hilly and windy ride. If prone to car sickness, be sure to pack your dramamine!

Rooms: The rooms are spread out among the property and we often heard people complaining that they couldn’t walk anywhere from their room. So, go with this expectation and enjoy the cute colorful buggies that will drive you around. The cottages are peaceful and the views are stunning. We enjoyed the various sweet treats they left nightly in our room. The four poster bed was plush and every room has a plunge pool.

Activities/Food: Water tube between the pitons! Don’t miss the Tet Paul Nature Trail. It’s a relatively close drive and an easy walk/hike with kids. The views are captivating and you might be lucky to catch a rainbow. Be sure to tip your guide- they’re full of knowledge. We found the food on property to be fantastic but if you’re looking to get off property, we highly recommend the Boucan restaurant at Hotel Chocolat (no I didn’t forget the letter e, it’s spelled that way!) It’s pretty close (important with kids) and it’s a unique eating experience. Go before sunset to see the Piton view and do not leave without eating the Chocolate Lava dessert.

Beach/Pool: It’s true the white sand is imported but the beach is beautiful, the chairs are comfortable, the service is timely, and the water is clear. You can’t beat sitting at the beach or the pool between the Pitons. Are you a fan of the ABC show The Bachelor/Bachelorette? Many of them have been known to vacation here at Sugar Beach!

Kids club: Perfect little space with an adequate amount of indoor and outdoor activities. They had a pirate adventure one day that our 3 year old loved, complete with treasures, eye patches, and pirate themed games.

Spa: I’ll be brutally honest here…run to the spa! Well, don’t literally run- you’ll miss the opportunity to experience the tranquil path to the spa. So leisurely walk there but do not, and I repeat, do not miss making an appointment here! Bamboo paths and tree-houses, volcanic springs, and lush greens await you. You’ll feel an overwhelming sense of something larger than life in this spa. Check out my Instagram stories to see some videos!

Having stayed at five different resorts within St. Lucia, this one is our favorite. If impressive views are important to you, Sugar Beach is remarkable. Between that, spot on service, tasty food, a transcendent spa, and more, Sugar Beach should be your next Caribbean vacation. Enjoy!
